Shiftin Bobbins are Helen, John, and Tim. We have been involved in traditional folk music in and around Stirling since the last century, and we have over a century of musical experience between us. We sing and play concertina, Scottish smallpipes, fiddle, and guitar.
Since 2002 we have hosted a regular session at 9 p.m on Wednesdays, which has just moved to the Settle Inn - the oldest pub in Stirling.
All musicians and singers are welcome, and on an average night there'll be a dozen people playing and singing. Visitors from around the world return year after year, and often contribute excellent music.
The repertoire is mainly Scottish and Irish traditional tunes - jigs, reels, marches, etc. - and songs ranging from authentic bothy ballads and Burns classics to contemporary folk standards.
On a good night we've had over 20 singers and musicians, and instruments have included fiddle, concertina, accordion, guitar, mandolin, whistle, flute, double bass, electric bass, Scottish smallpipes, Highland pipes, Uileann pipes. In accordance with current anti-discrimination legislation we even allow banjos and bodhrans ;-).
We can also provide a small ceilidh band for a wedding, birthday party, or other function.
